Adelaide University’s official social media accounts are a space for our community to connect, ask questions, and engage in conversations about the University and its activities. These channels play an important role in supporting the University’s reputation.
Adelaide University’s Marketing and Communications Branch runs the University's central social media channels but the vast majority of Adelaide University social media accounts and channels are run and managed locally within specific parts of the University (such as research institutes and centres).
To help identify if you're interacting with an officially endorsed Adelaide University account, check that it is using the official Adelaide University logo as its profile picture, and its biography includes the line: “This is an official account endorsed by Adelaide University”.
Please note that content posted by University staff or students, community members or members of the public on our channels or in tagged content does not necessarily represent the views of Adelaide University and is not endorsed by Adelaide University. While we actively monitor our accounts, we may not review every comment or post made by others. Except to the extent provided otherwise by any applicable law, we are not responsible for the accuracy or substance of any comments or posts by others on our channels.
While we aim to share accurate and current information, content posted by us on our social media channels may not always be accurate or complete and may change without notice.
The University may update these Terms of Use at any time and continued engagement with our accounts and channels indicates acceptance of any changes.
Rules of engagement
We welcome engagement on Adelaide University’s social media channels – whether you’re commenting, messaging or sharing your thoughts. To help keep these spaces respectful, constructive and safe, we encourage everyone to keep the following house rules in mind:
- Follow the Terms of Use and Community Guidelines of the platform you’re using.
- Be respectful and inclusive. We encourage genuine, constructive engagement that’s appropriate for all audiences and age groups (including minors). Posts containing profanity, graphic violence, nudity or explicit material may be removed to keep our community welcoming for everyone.
- Adelaide University upholds academic freedom and freedom of speech as core values. Personal attacks, trolling, bullying, intimidation, discrimination (including on the basis of race, gender, sexuality, religion, or political views), and any form of threatening behaviours are not acceptable.
- Stay on topic – to keep conversations helpful and relevant, we may remove off-topic comments, spam or advertising unrelated to the University.
- Be truthful and lawful. Avoid posting anything that may be defamatory, fraudulent, false or misleading, or that could breach Australian law.
- Respect copyright and intellectual property – only share content you have the right to post.
- Promote academic integrity. Posts encouraging academic misconduct, such as essay-writing services or contract cheating will be removed and associated accounts may be restricted.
- Users must not impersonate Adelaide University staff, students or affiliates, or mislead others about their identity or connection to the University.
- Protect your privacy. Please don’t post personal details (such as student IDs or phone numbers) in public comments. Social media platforms are inherently insecure and far-reaching, so avoid sharing any confidential, private or sensitive information. Where possible, use private messages or official University contact channels instead.
- Look after your safety. Be mindful about sharing real-time details about your location or activities, and check your privacy settings to control who can see your posts.
- Users must not post anything that is intended to disable, corrupt, harm or provide unauthorised access to any of our systems, accounts or services.
We encourage open discussion and community connection on our social media channels. To maintain a respectful and safe space, content that breaches these house rules or which we otherwise consider to be inappropriate may be removed, untagged and/or reported, and in some cases, those accounts may be restricted or blocked at our discretion. Adelaide University accepts no liability for any loss that may arise from these actions. We may also decide to restrict or disable comments on certain posts in our discretion.
If you see something on our channels that concerns you, please email socialmedia@adelaide.edu.au with a screenshot and link.
Photo and video tagging
We love seeing our community in action and welcome you to tag @adelaideuni in your photos and videos on social media.
By tagging or mentioning Adelaide University in your content, you grant us permission to re-share it on our official channels, with appropriate credit to your account. This may include reposting to Instagram stories, feeds, or other University-owned platforms.
If you'd prefer we not share your content, please let us know by sending us a direct message or emailing socialmedia@adelaide.edu.au.
