Research that transforms health outcomes

We conduct research on the social, environmental and genetic determinants of health, and the interplay between humans, animals and environments. We determine the best ways to promote and advocate for health, create healthy public policy, and shape health systems to be more equitable and efficient.

Occupational and environmental health

Adelaide Exposure Science and Health (AESH) researches occupational and environmental health through exploring environmental hazards and contaminants that put health; the Environment and Health Research Group (EHRG) investigate risk, adaptation and preparedness in response to environmental change alongside emergency crises amongst populations; and OneHealth@AU interrogate the interconnected health outcomes between humans, animals and the environment.

Health technology assessment

Adelaide Health Technology Assessment (AHTA) lead methodological innovation and evidence-based assessment of health interventions like medicines, medical tests and devices, vaccines and highly specialised technologies. We advise governments on the value of different health technologies to help governments make public funding decisions, enabling people to access good quality health care.

Genomics and population health

Improving health futures, the Australian Centre for Precision Health (ACPREH) discovers ways to personalise health advice based on our genes and the environment, to improve risk prediction and risk factors, and develop innovative methods to meet these health challenges.

Health equity and care across the lifespan

Supporting individuals and families to enhance health and development over the lifespan through initiatives including BetterStart, South Australian Thriving Families, the Life Course and Intergeneration Health Group (LIGHt), Palliative Care Research Collaboration (PCRC), Reproductive, Maternal, Neonatal, Child and Adolescent Health care (RMNCAH), and Stretton Health Equity.

Health evidence, policy and decision-making

Influencing decision-making and shaping interventions for wide-reaching and complex issues with experts in systematic reviews, guideline development, and connecting with policymakers. Our relevant endeavours include Stretton Health Equity (SHE), Adelaide Health Technology Assessment (AHTA), JBI, Health Evidence Synthesis, Recommendations and Impact (HESRI), and the Centre for Health in All Policies Research Translation (CHiAPRT).
