Support for Students Policy

Support for Students Policy

The purpose of our policy

Our policy sets out the principles under which Adelaide University supports students across their academic journey. It supports inclusive, equitable and purposeful student experiences and success.

Our policy provides authority to maintain our Support for Students Procedure.

Who our policy applies to

This policy applies to students enrolled in Adelaide University programs and the staff who provide academic or non-academic support to them.

Our Support for Students principles

Adelaide University is committed to making education accessible, relevant, and enriching for a diverse range of students. We recognise that with this diversity comes a range of challenges, and that students may require different types of support at various stages of their degrees.

We are dedicated to supporting students to participate, and succeed, in their study.

Our Support for Students Policy is guided by the following eight principles:

  1. We will adopt a whole-of-University approach that recognises supporting students is the responsibility of all staff. Staff will be equipped with the knowledge and resources relevant to their roles, to assist students who require support.
  2. We will focus on early identification of students at risk of failing their courses or not progressing in their research and ensure they are aware of relevant academic and non-academic support services.
  3. We recognise students as individuals, and wherever applicable consider their location, and cultural, social, and personal circumstances that may influence the support that a student may need or want.
  4. We will ensure specific support arrangements are available for [First Nations] students, in line with our ongoing commitment to improving the recruitment, support, and success of [First Nations] students.
  5. We will structure and resource support processes to maximise opportunities to offer purposeful, proactive support to students. We will also help students develop the skills to understand their own support needs and take shared responsibility.
  6. Our academic and non-academic support services will be accessible, to help students to identify and access the services they need as early as possible.
  7. We will regularly review the services, policies and procedures that contribute to our support for students, and take timely action to respond to opportunities for improvement.
  8. We will meet our student support obligations under relevant legislation, including compliance reporting under this policy.
