Scholarships, Grants and Prizes Policy

1. Purpose

1.1. This policy states the principles under which Adelaide University establishes and administers coursework Scholarships, Grants and Prizes.

2. Scope 

2.1. This policy applies to all scholarships, grants and prizes for which students enrolled in programs with a coursework component are eligible.

2.2. This policy does not apply to scholarships, grants and prizes exclusively for students in higher degrees by research.

3. Policy principles

3.1. Adelaide University will provide a range of scholarships, grants and prizes to support its objects and values.

3.2. Adelaide University will respect the rights and intentions of donors but reserves the right to decline an offer of external funds.

3.3. Every scholarship, prize and grant will have a set of approved rules that prescribe eligibility and selection criteria, value, administration, and any other conditions under which they are offered.

3.4. Eligibility and selection processes for all scholarships, grants and prizes will be fair, transparent, and consistent. 

3.5. All scholarships, grants and prizes will be established, administered and reviewed in accordance with Adelaide University approved policies and procedures.

4. Definitions 

4.1. Grant is an award that assists a student to meet the initial costs of commencing university study, or to undertake a designated component of a program, for example a placement or international exchange. A grant is normally a one-off occurrence and usually takes the form of a payment made to the student or a reduction in specified costs, such as tuition fees.

4.2. Prize is an award that recognises outstanding academic achievement, academic development, or any other criteria specified in the rules.

4.3. Scholarship is an award that assists a student to undertake or complete a program of study at Adelaide University for a nominated duration, normally taking the form of a period payment, or reduction in tuition fees.
