Fees and Loans Policy

1. Purpose

1.1. This policy outlines the principles under which Adelaide University determines and administers fees, loans, and charges to Students.

2. Scope 

2.1. This policy applies to all students and all Adelaide University programs and courses.  It includes collection of student fees, administration of student loans, refund of student fees and administration of third-party contracts as applied to student fees.

3. Policy principles

3.1. Adelaide University will determine Student Contribution Amounts, Tuition Fees and the Student Services and Amenities Fee for each academic program in which students are enrolled. 

3.2. The co-Vice Chancellors set and approve coursework and research tuition fees for international students and undergraduate and postgraduate domestic students who are not Commonwealth Supported.

3.3. Adelaide University will ensure availability of accurate and accessible information regarding all fees and charges, including amounts, invoice due dates and payment method options. Fees for each course will be published on Adelaide University’s website on or before the earliest enrolment date, as determined by Adelaide University.

3.4. Adelaide University will ensure that fees and charges that are outside the requirements of legislation or that contravene any Adelaide University approved Incidental Student Fees and charges, are not levied against students. 

3.5. Adelaide University will establish policies and procedures to manage student complaints, disputes, and administrative errors in relation to refunds of fees, student contributions and loans.

4. Definitions 

4.1. A Commonwealth Supported Student is a student who is eligible for, and is enrolled into, a Commonwealth supported place. Commonwealth supported students pay a student contribution amount towards the cost of their program, and a student services and amenities fee.

4.2. Incidental Student Fees are fees Adelaide University may impose outside of student contribution amounts for Commonwealth supported students and tuition fees for non-supported students.

4.3. A Student is a person enrolled in an enabling program, award or non-award coursework study, a research program, or a short course or microcredential at Adelaide University.

4.4. Student Contribution Amount is the amount charged to Commonwealth supported students as a contribution towards the cost of their education. Adelaide University, in accordance with the Higher Education Support Act 2003 (HESA), determines and publishes student contribution amounts on an annual basis.

4.5. Tuition Fee is charged for a course or program of study offered by Adelaide University. Tuition fee includes non-award fees, international student fees, offshore student fees, cross-institutional fees for students who are not Commonwealth supported, fees for domestic research degree students who exceed their funded time, fees for domestic students in fee-paying places, but does not include the student contribution amount or other fees related to incidental costs.
