The Indigenous Portfolio plays a vital role in Adelaide University's vision to become a globally recognised, inclusive and purpose-driven institution. The portfolio ensures the University’s functions work in tandem to deliver First Nations priorities, while driving inclusivity, equity and excellence. 

Through developing strategies that prioritise Indigenous education, research and engagement, the Indigenous Portfolio supports a strong learning and teaching experience for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and employees, helping establish Adelaide University as a transformative leader in higher education.

Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Indigenous

The Office of the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Indigenous supports Adelaide University’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander vision and strategy. The function is responsible for establishing governance structures and initiatives to grow the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander workforce. It also manages protocols, forums and cultural safety, while overseeing budget, operations and project planning.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander education

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Education supports the integration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing, doing and being into Adelaide University’s learning and teaching. The function works to embed Aboriginal Knowledges into the University’s curriculum, enhance staff capability with resources and training, and support the recruitment and retention of Aboriginal academics.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research and Innovation

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Research and Innovation is responsible for developing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander research strategies and policies. The function supports the University in centring Aboriginal Knowledges, growing relevant research, securing funding and advancing high quality research aligned with First Nations priorities. It also supports recruitment, retention and capacity building of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers and graduate research students.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Outreach and Engagement

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Outreach and Engagement drives the University's partnerships and external engagement with Aboriginal communities. This includes partnering with schools and organisations to deliver meaninful workshops and campus experiences for First Nations high school students.

Aboriginal Strategy and Governance

Aboriginal Strategy and Governance is responsible for driving operational performance and developing strategic initiatives to implement Adelaide University’s First Nations vision and strategy. The function focuses on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leadership, equity and self-determination, ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples are encouraged and supported at the University.
