Cisco and Adelaide University have launched a new partnership to boost AI and Cybersecurity research and education, which includes creating a Cisco Research Chair in AI Cybersecurity.
The partnership will benefit students, researchers and industry by focusing on world-leading AI Cybersecurity research, education and training capabilities.
The agreement was signed following Adelaide University’s recent commitment to the Cisco-led National Industry Innovation Network (NIIN) Charter, which fosters industry-academic collaboration in support of Australia’s national priorities.
Outcomes of the partnership will include industry-leading insights and knowledge in networking technologies, data and cybersecurity, which will be embedded into Adelaide University’s degree programs and professional-development education offerings.
Additionally, the appointment of a Cisco Research Chair in AI Cybersecurity is an important part of the partnership, strengthening Adelaide University’s position as a global research leader in AI.
A commitment to provide PhD and Masters of Research scholarships will also ensure Adelaide University continues contributions to Australia’s sovereign capabilities in AI and Cybersecurity.
Adelaide University and Cisco will also explore:
- The co-development of a Cisco Cyber Range, a security simulation to help security teams build the skills and experience necessary to identify and protect against cyber threats.
- A new sovereign AI Cloud initiative to provide access to sovereign AI infrastructure, supporting industry and universities to innovate at scale.
“This new partnership is truly exciting and builds on the strong relationship our teams have built with Cisco over many years of collaboration,” said Adelaide University Vice Chancellor, Professor Nicola Phillips.
“Not only will the agreement facilitate important research in AI cybersecurity, but it also ensures study and research undertaken by Adelaide University students and staff is well aligned with Australia’s national priorities.”
Stefan Leitl, Vice President and General Manager of Cisco Australia & New Zealand, said Adelaide University was the perfect partner with which to establish a Research Chair in AI Cybersecurity due to the institution’s strong research presence in AI and the defence sector.
“Cisco is deeply committed to ensuring Australia's success in the AI era. The partnership with Adelaide University reflects a shared commitment to building Australia’s digital resilience and digital economic prosperity,” he said.
“Combining Cisco’s global leadership in AI and cybersecurity – providing the critical infrastructure for the AI era – and Adelaide University’s outstanding research capabilities will ensure Australia has the people, skills, and sovereign infrastructure to protect itself and grow its economy.”
