Adelaide University and Tasting Australia are serving up something special

It’s the perfect pairing, as Adelaide University partners with Tasting Australia to celebrate the culinary delights and natural wonders of South Australia with a shared vision for a sustainable future.

This year, Australia’s new major university and one of the nation’s longest running food and drink festivals are coming together to showcase the nexus between the State’s primary production and hospitality industries and the forward-thinking education and research that underpins its growth and sustainability, along with the broader agricultural sector.

Adelaide University is hosting nine unique events, including a cooking class on the iconic Waite Campus with celebrity zero-waste chef Douglas McMaster and a 4WD trek through Blewitt Springs to sip wine and learn about soil science.

“Connections made through the sharing of food and drink is a universal experience that transcends borders and time,” says Professor Jessica Gallagher, Deputy Vice Chancellor, International and External Engagement.

“Adelaide University is proud to be partnering with Tasting Australia to create more of these cultural moments – and to showcase some of the incredible talent produce and sustainable practices that we have in this part of the world.”

A member of Australia’s research-intensive Group of Eight (Go8) universities, the new Adelaide University is launching a dedicated signature research theme in Food, Agriculture & Wine that will drive impactful outcomes through a partnered approach with industry.

“Through our world-class research, Adelaide University will leverage South Australia’s food and wine culture to accelerate innovation and growth across urban, regional and rural communities and enhance access to both local and global markets,” Prof. Gallagher says.

“Our focus is also on sustainability, which is a key theme for this year’s event, including zero waste, which couldn’t be more important in a rapidly changing world where we’re seeing collective challenges around food security, cost of living, growing and emerging economies, and climate change.”

Adelaide University’s teaching and research will actively contribute to advancing the United Nation’s Sustainability Development Goals, as well as shaping what’s next for food safety, nutrition and equity; biosecurity, biodiversity and animal wellbeing; environmental and climate resilience; and strengthening the green economy to meet global demands for eco-friendly plant-based products.

Adelaide University will offer contemporary degrees in areas such as Nutrition, Food Science and Technology, Viticulture, Sustainability and Climate Change, Wine and Food Business, and more.

“Through Tasting Australia presented by Journey Beyond’s partnership with Adelaide University, the festival has shaped a series of unique experiences that give local, national and international visitors and communities a real taste of what South Australia has to offer as a leading culinary destination,” says Tasting Australia Festival Director, Karena Armstrong.

“The partnership also reinforces the state’s reputation as a place for progress through transformative education and research.”
