Adelaide University has hosted its first joint alumni reception in London, bringing together more than 80 alumni and guests from the foundation universities to celebrate a joint future.
The evening honoured the proud legacies of the two foundation institutions and their remarkable global achievements while highlighting the ambitions for an exciting next chapter. It reaffirmed Adelaide University’s commitment to being an institution driven by purpose and acknowledged that at its heart is our powerhouse of alumni – our greatest ambassadors – whose impact continues to shape the world.
Guest speaker His Excellency, The Hon Stephen Smith, Australia’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom highlighted the transformative role of education and research in a rapidly changing world.
Henry Lawton, Chair of the combined South Australian Universities Alumni in Europe (SAUAE) said the energy in the room was palpable after hearing about the vision for Adelaide University.
“The South Australian University Alumni Europe (SAUAE) network is excited to act as a strong advocate for Adelaide University by amplifying its visibility, reach, and impact,” Mr Lawton said.
“Our hundreds of members spread across the breadth of the UK and Europe are an impressive, eclectic cohort who deeply value the knowledge, skills, and experience that the two foundation institutions have given them in their lives and careers.”
Adelaide University Deputy Vice Chancellor, International and External Engagement Professor Jessica Gallagher said the event marked the beginning of something very special.
“Our alumni are the custodians of two proud legacies and will be our greatest ambassadors as we write the next chapter for Adelaide University. Alumni are part of our founding DNA and our future, representing what South Australia has to offer – across industries, the professions and society as a whole,” Professor Gallagher said.
“Adelaide University is a unique opportunity to unify our South Australian alumni who are living and working around the world, affording new chances for connection, professional networking and collaboration across our diverse global alumni community.”
From Day One, Adelaide University will connect more than 400,000 alumni from 150 countries. A global network that is unified by the legacies of their graduating institutions and coming together as part of a new generation sharing experiences, stories, memories and networks around the world.
