Profile of Paul Moss

About me

I have over 20 years’ experience in education across secondary and higher education, including leadership in curriculum design and whole-of-institution teaching and learning initiatives. My work specialises in evidence-based learning design, constructive alignment, and assessment design, informed by cognitive load and schema theory. I am committed to improving student learning environments by building educator capability through reflective, conversational approaches grounded in research and sustained inquiry. I am currently undertaking a PhD focused on learning design and alignment.

I have led and co-designed large-scale pedagogical initiatives at school, faculty, and university levels, including assurance of learning strategies for accreditation, the Adelaide University Learning Environment Principles, merger-related program redesign, and the development of institution-wide course design and alignment approaches. I have also contributed to governance and academic quality processes through service on faculty and university teaching and learning committees, providing a broad institutional perspective on higher education practice. I am recognised as a Senior Fellow of Advance HE and teach as a sessional academic. I am a leader who leads by example. I strive to know as much as I can about all things related to pedagogy so I can better inform my decisions depending on the context I find myself in. I listen, am calm and patient, but ambitious for those around me.
