About me
Nick is a Lecturer in the School of Allied Health & Human Performance (ALH) at Adelaide University. He holds a degree in Applied Science (Human Movement) majoring in Outdoor Education and a research degree in Health Science with First Class Honours from UniSA. His research interests focus on Green Exercise and the physical and mental health benefits of time spent in nature.
Before joining the University, Nick began his career in information technology before discovering his passion for working with groups in outdoor settings. He has since worked and volunteered across a wide range of programs, including corporate training, youth at risk initiatives, eco-tourism, and school and tertiary Outdoor Education. Nick continues to contribute to the professional training of bushwalking guides (Walking SA) and paddling instructors (Paddle SA). At Adelaide University, Nick coordinates and teaches within the Outdoor Education stream, working with students from the Human Movement, Education, and Outdoor & Environmental Leadership programs.
As a committed educator, he is an active member of the ALH Teaching Innovations Group, contributing to the approval and implementation of initiatives that support innovation and quality in teaching and learning. He also serves as an Academic Integrity Officer, advising staff, investigating cases, and supporting students.
Nick is deeply engaged in the Outdoor Education community. He is the current Chair of the Outdoor Educators’ Association of South Australia where he has been recognised with a Service Award; serves on the board of Outdoor Education Australia; and is an active member of the Australian Tertiary Outdoor Education Network. His additional volunteer roles include the Paddle SA Education & Safety Technical Committee and Walking SA’s Assessment Panel and Education Committee.
