Andrew Cunningham is an Associate Professor in Human–Computer Interaction and Co-Director of the Wearable Computer Lab at Adelaide University. His work spans immersive technologies (VR/AR/MR), interactive systems, and data visualisation, with a focus on supporting collaborative sensemaking and decision-making in real-world contexts. He has led large, multidisciplinary research projects with industry and government partners and has received multiple international research awards.

Andrew Cunningham’s research and innovation have been recognised through multiple competitive awards. These include the minEx Award for excellence in minerals industry innovation, the UniSA STEM Early Career Researcher (ECR) Award, and the South Australian Information Industry Association (SAIIA) iAward. His work has also received international recognition at leading venues such as ACM CHI and IEEE VR, reflecting sustained impact across academia and industry.

Andrew Cunningham is an educator in human–computer interaction and interactive systems design, with teaching focused on human-centred design, immersive technologies, and applied software development. His approach emphasises connecting theory with real-world practice from his industry experience, helping students develop both technical capability and critical thinking around collaboration, usability, and ethics. Andrew has contributed to curriculum development as a member of the program design group for the Adelaide University (AU) transition and has designed and taught a range of courses, including System Requirements and User Experience, Project Studio, Design Patterns with C++, and Game Design. He has led and redesigned undergraduate and postgraduate courses, and supervises honours, HDR, and PhD students across HCI and interactive systems.
